Are Dental Expenses Covered by Your HSA in Canada?
Dental care is one of those ongoing expenses that never really stops.
Whether it's a routine cleaning, a filling, or something more significant, the costs add up over the course of a year.
Dental expenses are eligible under your Health Spending Account, with very few exceptions.
What's Covered
Any medicalluy necessary dental service performed by a licensed dentist is eligible. That includes:
- Routine cleanings and checkups
- Fillings and restorations
- Extractions
- Root canals
- Crowns and bridges
- Dental implants
- Dentures
- Gum disease treatment
- X-rays
- Emergency dental care
What's Not Covered
Purely cosmetic procedures are not eligible. For example, teeth whitening and veneers for cosmetic purposes cannot be claimed through your HSA.
Provincial Eligibility
Dentists are recognized as authorized practitioners across every province and territory in Canada.
Eligibility of Other Dental Professionals
Dental hygienists along with denturists are also eligible in every province and territory. Orthodontic treatment and braces are also covered.
What You Need to Submit
- A receipt from your dentist showing the treatment, date of service, and amount paid
- If another insurer covered part of it, include the explanation of benefits showing the unpaid balance
- Upload and submit through your Hiveworks account
The unpaid portion after any group benefits or spousal plan is claimable.
