Are Naturopath Visits Covered by a Health Spending Account in Canada?
Naturopath visits can be claimed through your Health Spending Account in certain provinces, but not everything provided during a naturopath appointment is eligible.
Where It's Eligible
Naturopaths are recognized as authorized practitioners in the following provinces:
- Alberta
- British Columbia
- Manitoba
- Nova Scotia
- Ontario
- Saskatchewan
Naturopath visits are not eligible in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, or the Yukon.
What's Not Eligible
Naturopathic clinics commonly sell take-home products as part of treatment. These are not eligible regardless of who recommends them:
- Supplements, herbs, vitamins, or natural remedies
- IV drips for wellness purposes
- Detox products
- Any take-home consumables sold during or after your visit
The consultation and any clinical treatment delivered during the appointment is what qualifies. Products sold during that same visit do not.
What to Keep
A receipt for the consultation showing the date, your provider's name and registration details, and the amount paid. If your receipt combines the consultation fee with product purchases, only the service portion is claimable. Ask your provider for separate invoices where possible.
